Fuse board upgrades and replacements
The modern consumer unit is the heart of the wiring system in the home. The unit distributes the electricity, via fuses of one kind or another, to the different circuits in the house.  The consumer unit of today is much more convenient to use than those of previous generations, and fuse wires do not have to be replaced.  Instead, re-settable fuses, usually in the form of a flick switch are installed.  When a fault develops, the fuse will trip.

The introduction of compulsory RCD protection which will disconnect the electrical supply was introduced in July 2008.

Safety Checks
A Periodic Test and Inspection is an electrical survey, known as a Periodic Inspection Report (PIR).  This will reveal if electrical circuits are overloaded, find potential hazards in the installation, identify defective DIY work, highlight any lack of earthing or bonding and carry out tests on the fixed wiring of the installation. The report will establish the overall condition of all the electrics and state whether it is satisfactory for continued use, and will detail any work that might need to be done.
